The Association of Labour Practitioners of Zimbabwe (ALPZ), that was recently established, has committed to collaborating with the Government and stakeholders to reshape the nation’s labour environment in alignment with global standards.
Spearheaded by seasoned labour lawyer Advocate Caleb Mucheche as its president and inaugural country representative, the association emerges amidst heightened dialogue between the labour sector, Government, and the business community, all striving to implement strategies that support the attainment of the 6 percent economic growth target for 2025.
During the launch on Wednesday, participants highlighted the critical role of productivity and stressed the necessity of united policy efforts to sustain the country’s economic progress.
Adv Mucheche emphasised the significance of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF), which unites labour, business, and Government to foster consensus and champion legislative improvements that enhance the labour framework.
Adv Mucheche elaborated on the rationale behind the formation of ALPZ, which is affiliated with the African Labour Law Society.
He noted that the association seeks to bring together multidisciplinary labour practitioners to collectively address labour-related challenges and advance the sector.
Reflecting on the broader vision, he remarked, “The establishment of this body demonstrates the labour sector’s dedication to driving increased output. In the long run, this approach ensures shared benefits for all stakeholders. Today’s gathering underscores the willingness of labour institutions to contribute to realising the 6 percent growth target.”
Echoing this sentiment, labour law expert Mr Selby Hwacha underscored the sector’s indispensable role in economic development, particularly through initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity.
“It is crucial to continually identify opportunities that enable industry and commerce to flourish while also equipping the Government with effective solutions.”
ALPZ Secretary Ms Patience Kavuru acknowledged the association’s focus on addressing economic growth issues, including fostering economic stability.
She remarked, “The moment calls for exploring additional practical strategies to sustain economic progress.”
Zimbabwe, operating under the framework of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum, has reaffirmed has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing dialogue as a means to bolster productivity and drive national development.
