“Even the songs that will be competing are gospel songs which promote healthy behaviour. Altfin promotes good health and the music will go a long way in complementing us,” said Nkani. He also revealed that organisations were continuously pledging for the prizes of the eventual winners.
“So far we have two pledges of cars and many organisations and individuals are still pledging and we hope to have as many prizes as possible,” Nkani said.
Reverend Mudenda from FMCZ thanked Altfin for the gesture saying choral groups unite people.
“God is continuously blessing our country and the gesture by our partners Altfin and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, show God’s hand.
“I heard on the radio this other day that Chimurenga music was a source of inspiration during the war of liberation and in this day, when choral music is sung, God’s glory descend on Zimbabwe,” Rev Mudenda said.
“In reference to Chitungwiza Harmony Singers which recently came tops in choral music competition in South Africa, Rev Mudenda said choral music was putting Zimbabwe’s flag on the continental map.
In a related matter, Federation for Choral Music of Zimbabwe has also launched a choral music festival for primary school choirs and youths below the age of 25.
Through its national, provincial and district symposia, the local chapter has already started conducting master classes with the help of the Zimbabwe College of Music.
The college has already written choral music competition songs and is also providing the intellectual and professional integrity demanded in this extensively participatory national choral music festival.
Acting director of the Zimbabwe College of Music Rachel Chigwanda said they were providing technical support to the festival as well as training of choral music directors, and accrediting the district level adjudicators.
The confederation recognises that there are more people in Zimbabwe participating in choral music through churches, schools and arts groups than in any other group activity. The choral music competitions will run in all the rural and urban districts.
