adminIn an interview, Amakhosi artistic director Cont Mhlanga said as part of work towards that they had three theatre plays and a TV production that they earmarked for this year.
“Actors and actresses who are interested should come to Amakhosi for auditions,” he said.
Mhlanga said for stage plays, they were expecting actors from other arts organisations and schools to come forward.
He said the TV production would be called The Last Country, but would not divulge more on its content.
Amakhosi was also looking for actors for that television production.
Amakhosi’s production department has been dormant for the past few years, with its last big and notable project being the TV production Amakorokoza which faced funding problems and went off the small screen.
The re-activation of the department will see a number of actors reviving their careers and the waking up of the once vibrant township square from its slumber.
It has been disheartening for arts lovers as the last few years have seen a number projects like the one that was supposed to feature Mbongeni Ngema dying a natural death.
Projects such as the one that Amakhosi did last year in conjunction with Mighty Movies at Elite 400 came, but did not have Mhlanga’s yesteryear touch.
Mhlanga is one of the arts gurus in the country who has over the years churned out great theatre productions that have made people stand up and notice.
Among these are master pieces like Nansi Lendoda, Dabulap, Citizen Child, Cry-Isililo and Workshop Negative.
For television he produced dramas that include Amakorokoza and Friday Live at Amakhosi both of which were popular projects.
