Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda and Somalia, Winpeg Moyo, has been appointed the chairperson of the SADC Nairobi Chapter.

She took over from Angolan Ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abilio, at a ceremony held at the Embassy of Angola.

The day was dedicated to upholding the unity and shared vision of the SADC member states and celebrating the achievements of the regional organisation.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Amb Moyo said the SADC region has proved to be a formidable force in guarding and defending its sovereignty and the right to continued self-determination.

“From engaging in peace efforts to defending individual Member States from the scourge of sanctions, SADC countries have stood in solidarity with each other, encouraging other countries such as our host Kenya and other friendly nations to uphold and support SADC projects and programmes verbally, financially and technically,” she said.

Amb Moyo said as they reflected on their collective journey and future of SADC, it was crucial to acknowledge the Diaspora community’s invaluable role in shaping regional development.

“Your contributions, both through financial support and expertise, have been instrumental in driving progress and fostering sustainable growth across our region,”she added.
