Mrs Emma Linda Marongwe, the wife of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Cde Grey Mark Marongwe, died last Friday after a three-year battle with breast cancer.

Ambassador Marongwe, in a statement, said the cancer had spread to the liver and bone.

Mrs Marongwe was born in 1960 and attended Monte Casino Girls High School for her Ordinary Levels after which she joined the Department of Statistics in 1978 and worked as a clerk.

“She served in that capacity for 12 years before taking an unpaid leave and joined her husband at the Embassy of Zimbabwe in Washington D.C. in 1990,” read the statement.

“While in the United States, Mrs Marongwe acquired a Diploma in Business Management from Montgomery College in the State of Maryland in 1991 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland in 1993.”

In that year, she qualified as a Certified Public Accountant and worked for a short period at a leading law firm in Washington D.C.

Upon her return to Zimbabwe in 1995, Mrs Marongwe left the civil service and in 1998, she joined Price Waterhouse Coopers where she was employed as a chartered accountant.

She worked for the same accounting firm in Mozambique when she joined her husband, who had been appointed Ambassador of Zimbabwe to that country in 1999.

At the time of her death, Mrs Marongwe was running her own accounting consultancy firm.

She is survived by her husband Ambassador Marongwe and two children.

Mrs Marongwe will be buried at Chiwetu Village in Rusape tomorrow.
