American investors to lobby for sanctions removal

SOME investors from the United States of America have vowed to lobby for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the US and its allies.

Speaking here yesterday, the business leaders were vehement that something would give soon, adding that they had the muscle and right connections to make sure the sanctions go.

“We want to make sure that we make the case for removing sanctions against Zimbabwe and the African-American voice is a voice that matters and is listened to.

“We are committed in our hearts not just to come there and make money, but to ensure Zimbabweans enjoy access to international markets unencumbered by sanctions,” said Illinois Chamber of Commerce chairman Mr Larry Ivory.

He said his organisation would engage some Senators in the upper House of the US Congress to facilitate the process.

Zimbabwe has been grappling with the illegal sanctions under the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act since 2001.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the United States, Tadeus Chifamba, said it was critical that the voice against sanctions grew louder.

“The voice of business can be added to those calling for the removal of sanctions,” he said.
