Amidu eyes SA First Division top goalscorer award

From Aaron Dube in Johannesburg
FORMER Warriors and Black Mambas striker Brian Abbas Amidu looks forward to the resumption of the South African National First Division League after the festive season break. Amidu is determined to put behind him a difficult year.

On January 12, Amidu’s Black Leopards will kick-start their league campaign against Roses United at their home ground in Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.

Amidu who last year scored three goals said he wants to bang in as many goals as possible and compete for the top goal scorer award.
The former Kaizer Chiefs player said: “I’m happy to be still alive and kicking in 2014. I want to start afresh and put the past behind me and become a player who impressed and was signed by Amakhosi a few seasons ago.

“Last year towards the end it was hectic as I was in and out of South Africa trying to solve my younger brother Bret Amidu’s contract issue between South African Premier League team Amazulu and Black Aces Academy.

“Black Aces have put a higher price for my brother which is not fair.”
Amidu says this is a year of big things for him.  His only mission now is to help Black Leopards win the NFD championship and he believes that it is possible considering the position they are in at the moment.

Leopards trail log leaders Milano United by six points as they have 23 points and United have 29 points.  His contract expires in June 2015.

Meanwhile, former Highlanders marksman Ralph Matema and former Monomotapa twins Peter and Patrick Mubaiwa who now ply their trade at Witbank Spurs will be in action on January 11 against Thanda Royal Zulu FC at Umhlathuze Sports Complex.

Fixtures:

January 10:  Chippa United v Blackburn Rovers at Phillipi Stadium,

January 11:  Vasco Da Gama v Santos at Parow Park, Maluti FET College v African Warriors at Charles Mopedi  Stadium, Milano United AFC v FC Cape Town at Wynberg Military Base, Sivutsa Stars v Baroka FC at Kabokweni Stadium,

January 12: United FC v Jomo Cosmos at Moruleng Stadium.
