THE Zimbabwe Netball Association (Zina) is today set to hold a coaches’ workshop for Super League and Division One teams at St Peter’s Mbare Primary School in Harare. The course will run until Friday.
Miriam Garikai will conduct the officiating course while John Banda will instruct the coaches. Banda and Garikai are the only qualified instructors in Zimbabwe.
Garikai said the course is meant to train the local umpires and coaches so that netball can develop in the country.
“Now we don’t have to wait for instructors from South Africa or England, we can teach and test our own umpires and award them certificates,” she said.
“The idea of this course is to improve the standards of netball in both coaching and officiating in the country.”
Zina president Leticia Chipandu said the course meets the Federation of International Netball Association (FINA) standards.
“We expect 30 plus coaches and umpires to attend, some have already confirmed and everything is set for the workshop” she said.
