SONGBIRD Ammara Brown has joined forces with South African activists to empower adolescent girls and young women.
Ammara, together with Zulaikha Patel, Thando Hlophe and Nonhlanhla Siwela, are hosts to the Adolescent Girls and Young Women podcast.
In an interview with H-Metro, Ammara said:
“The podcast, I believe, is a part of a manifestation which came towards the end of last year.
“I was opening up on Instagram about issues of race and culture, and really felt compelled to lean into my speaking voice on issues we have barely touched on as an African society.
“I was approached earlier this year by the BIRD, in partnership with the Education Development Centre EDC, to be a part of something truly spectacular.
“I’m working alongside powerhouse activists — Zulaikha Patel, Thando Hlophe and Nonhlanhla Siwela — as we discuss an awesome array of issues, which the youths of today are facing, from an entirely female perspective.”
Ammara is currently working on her second album.
She believes it will be her best production.
“I have been working tirelessly to complete my album, Flaming Lily. I have a wide variety of producers on the album, including Grammy award-winning Brian Soko, Chiweddar, Charlie Kay, Gangsta Made it, Verseless and producers from Zambia — Jazzy Boy and Magician.
“I’m so proud of it. It’s truly my best work so far.”
She said she was, “in a relationship and that’s all I’m at liberty to discuss.”
