Ammara to headline Africa Day concert

All is set for the “TiriAfrica” concert which is scheduled to take place on Africa Day and will be headlined by the “Mukoko” hit-maker Amara Brown at Arrupe College in Mount Pleasant. She will be supported by Vera, Chioneso Rutsito of Jazz and blue, Tribe Afros, Rae lyric, Pash, Pachena Jams, Graviti and others. TiriAfrica concert is a youth oriented activity organized and run by the Young People for Others movement.It aims at bringing together young people in Africa of various nationalities to share their diverse cultures and beliefs and to rediscover pride in their roots. It is a celebration, a day of pride in being African “TiriAfrica” (We are Africa). Young People for Others representative Tadiwa Sinoia said apart from the main acts the concert will also feature high schools and youth groups.

“Each school or group will be invited to come with presentations in the form of poetry, proverbs, drama, music, dance, public speaking, and so forth,” he said.

“All presentations will be focused on Africa, they must speak to a young generation in Africa and inspire, appreciate or applaud what it is to be a young African in the twenty first century.

Creativity and innovation will be highly appreciated in this concert to show new and better ways with which to depict and portray what it is to be African, to show what the young people’s hopes and dreams are for their homeland, Entertainment from professional and amateur artists will be provided,” said Sinoia. The TiriAfrica concert aims to provide a platform for young people to exchange their diverse cultures and learn as well as appreciate others, to raise funds for charity and to instil in young people the value of being people for others.

Tickets are pegged at $3. Revellers are advised to put on their African regalia. Young People for Others is a youth movement begun in 2014 by a group of form six students from St Ignatius College and later on spreading to other students from different high schools in the country who, after a visit to Mother of Peace Home in Mutoko, were inspired to start working and making a difference in their communities. It is a movement that aims to do charity work for the less privileged and vulnerable members of our society especially young people.

YPO aims at equipping members of society with knowledge and skills to tackle problems faced by the vulnerable community members.
