JUST 14 days after he was released from Marondera prison on amnesty, a 20-year-old ex-convict from Ruwa has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for stealing a motor vehicle in Kwekwe.
Appearing before Kwekwe regional magistrate, Mr Naison Dambuza, for unlawful entry into premises and theft of a motor vehicle charge was Benjamin Manyangadze, aged 20 of Ruwa.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the charge. The case was tried at Kwekwe Court on March 26.
The court heard that the complainant Tawanda Godfrey Magure (46) left home for work and left his parked motor vehicle, a Peugeot 208, red in colour, registration number AGY 1389 in an unlocked garage.
At around 5pm on the same day, the complainant returned and discovered that his motor vehicle had been stolen.
The suspect forced open the complainant’s house, gained entry and took car keys, US$1 800 cash and other belongings, which were in the wardrobe. Total value stolen was US$9 920.
On 16 March 2026, around 4pm, detectives spotted the stolen motor vehicle being driven. They pursued it, leading to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the motor vehicle in Murombedzi.
Manyangadze was then taken to court for trial on 17 March 2026, where he was convicted and sentenced on 26 March 2026.
Mr Pepil Chauke appeared for the State.
