reduce the number of guards it requires to guard its premises.
The video alarm provided by Safeguard Security is a wireless alarm system that when triggered sends to Safeguard’s rapid response centre not only an alarm signal but video clips of what is happening at Amtec. The alarm sensors, which incorporate a hidden camera, are activated by motion when armed.
When positioned strategically, they can watch over areas that previously required a guard at night. Unlike a guard, the video alarm cannot be distracted. Whenever the sensor detects motion, the alarm goes off and sends a series of video clips to Safeguard.
Staff at the rapid response centre are able to see what set off the alarm off. If it is something harmless, such as an animal, they can contact a guard at the premises and tell him what set it off. If it is an intruder, they can also advise the guard of this and describe to him and to the rapid response team dispatched what the person looks like, what he is doing and whether or not he appears armed.
Amtec Motors Mutare dealer principal Prince Chibinya explained that Amtec has been able to reduce the number of guards patrolling its premises at night by placing video alarm sensors opposite areas where vehicles and equipment are kept.
“Installing the video alarm has been a huge benefit. Areas that are vulnerable and are likely to be targeted by thieves are being monitored effectively by video alarm, which will automatically send both an alarm signal and video clips to Safeguard’s monitoring centre the moment an intruder is detected, periodic mock intrusions has been positively identified,” he said.
“Renting the alarm system is proving cheaper than paying for guards whose services we no longer need. We still have guards at the premises but do not need so many.”
Commenting on the video alarm’s applications, Safeguard Mutare managing director Berington Nhepera said the system is easy to install, wireless and runs on batteries that last for up to two years.
“The video clips that are sent by video alarm can help determine whether it is a false alarm or not. If it is genuine, the video clips help Safeguard’s monitoring centre to determine what action to take, as
they can see what the intruders are doing and whether or not they are armed,” he said.
The video clips can be stored and the images can be extracted, enlarged and stored for later use such as evidence in court.
Mr Nhepera said companies such as Amtec Motors that use the video alarm can have the videos and images emailed to them if they wish.
