An eye-opening tour of Zimpapers

MARCH 10 will forever remain a special day for the Zimpapers Junior Media Club members from Munashe Private High School, who had the opportunity to tour the integrated media house’s newsrooms and studios.

The tour was not only exciting but also highly educational.

Time was not on our side but the energetic, hospitable and professional Zimpapers team made sure we learnt about the company’s operations as much as possible.

We can confidently say we are now in a class of our own in terms of understanding media operations. The radio division is creating waves, and the chief producer at Star FM, Tapiwa Musoni, warmly explained to us what it means to be a broadcaster and how we can be part of the team.

Some of the radio stations under the Zimpapers group are Capitalk 100.4 FM, Diamond FM, Star FM and Nyaminyami FM.

The printing section is another exciting part of the media house.

Mr Ringo Munetsi was at our service, explaining to us the printing press setup and how it is managed.

At Herald House, we explored the epicentre of news distribution, which is the convergence desk.

Phyllis Kachere, the “grey-haired young-old woman”, as she called herself, welcomed us. Her role is certainly energy sapping but that does not stop her from putting a smile on her face.

In fact, she is dedicated and serious about her work.

The Knowledge Centre, or simply the library, has copies of all publications dating back to the first newspaper from 1896.

As budding journalists, we are raring to go and be part of this winning team.
