SINGER-SONGWRITER Ananya Kouds, the Zimbabwean-born, London-based multi-instrumentalist renowned for her raw emotional depth, has unveiled her latest single, “Falling.”

True to her signature style, the track masterfully blends emotional lyricism with shimmering pop sensibilities, exploring the turbulence of falling in love at an inopportune moment.

Produced by Patch Boshell, “Falling” pairs bright, rhythmic grooves with lyrics steeped in restraint and heartbreak. The contrast is intentional: a danceable beat urges movement while Ananya’s introspective words capture hesitation and emotional chaos.

“I wrote it questioning everything—my boundaries, my honesty, whether I was getting too close to someone unready. It’s that tug-of-war between heart and logic,” said Ananya.

Her ascent in the music scene transcends streaming milestones—though her debut EP, “i woke up one night”, surpassed a million streams. Her creativity resonates through storytelling, giving voice to sleepless nights, unspoken complexities, and the bittersweet solace of solitude.

With “Falling,” she delivers another universally relatable journey, this time inviting listeners to dance through the ache.

The song first debuted mid-pandemic during a Glamour Magazine South Africa livestream, performed from her family home in Harare.

“Singing about vulnerability to a camera felt surreal, yet it connected,” she recalled. The initial stripped-down rendition has since evolved into a lush, full-bodied production, retaining the raw emotional honesty that first captivated audiences.

“Falling” is an anthem for those who maintain composure by day but unravel beneath the stars—for over thinkers, silent feelers, and hesitant romantics.

“I hope it speaks to anyone biting their tongue, pretending they’re okay. I wanted it to feel like moving through your emotional mess with just enough rhythm to keep going,” she said. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
