Anderson and Root break test cricket world record

ENGLAND’S Joe Root and James Anderson rode roughshod over the record books with the highest 10th-wicket stand in Test history on a surreal fourth morning against India. The pair batted serenely for the entire opening session as they eclipsed the 163 made by Australia’s Ashton Agar and Phil Hughes on the same Trent Bridge pitch last year.

It was the second impressive last-wicket stand of the match after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (58) and Mohammed Shami (51 not out) had put on 111 for India in a first innings total 457.

Yet, thanks to the efforts of century-maker Root and Anderson, England achieved a first-innings lead, having been 298 for nine on Friday.
This match was also the first in 137 years of Test cricket where both sides had seen their last-wicket duo share hundred partnerships and where both number 11— Shami and Anderson — had made 50s.— The Telegraph
