AFRO-FUSION musician Andy Muridzo is ecstatic after his maiden tour of France, where he performed at the UNESCO headquarters as part of a cultural exchange programme.
The Jeetaz Band leader was part of a Zimbabwean delegation that included Diana “Mangwenya” Samkange, the Air Force of Zimbabwe Band, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Band, and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Band.
He could not hide his elation at this honour.
“I am back from France where we had a successful tour as part of a cultural exchange programme. On May 19 we performed in Paris Decongrè, and then on May 20 and 21, we had performances at the UNESCO headquarters.
“While some Zimbabweans may not fully appreciate our culture, I found out that other countries truly value our way of life. We were warmly embraced in France, and we outclassed other participants due to our uniqueness,” he said.
“I urge people to embrace our traditional music. We can never escape our culture.”
Affectionately known as Baba Keketso, Muridzo is one of the local musicians who have embraced mbira music and Zimbabwean culture.
His maiden tour of France not only highlights his commitment to cultural exchange but also positions him as a youthful cultural ambassador proud of his roots.
