Anesu Tseriwa: Natural born draughtsman

aptitudes. As the saying goes, some people are born great, some achieve greatness some have greatness thrust upon them. Tseriwa is one such individual who was born gifted.

“Anesu has demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent since his early years,” said his proud mother.
This gift came to him naturally without ever having any form of formal training the young Picasso in the making noted.

“I just found myself taking to paper and pencil and drawing whatever came to mind when I was a young boy.
“I would draw cars, spider webs, shoes, anything really. I can say that I draw no matter the circumstance.

“Whether I am happy or sad; all I want to do is draw. I do manage my time wisely as I draw only after finishing important things. I draw in my spare time,” said Anesu.
Talented, organised and self-motivated Anesu has started taking art as a subject at Vainona High School where he is currently in Form One.

“Art is my favourite subject. I am learning a lot and it helps that my art teacher Mr Muguwa teaches with passion. I can say at this moment he is my role model.”
Reflecting on his journey as a hands-on artist, Anesu remembers his turning point. This was when he turned to engineering the sketches he had drawn on paper.

By the age of 10 he began to make art work by collecting and using recyclable material.
“I would go around my neighbourhood collecting wires from the streets or dumping sites if I had to. I have had to use random resources. At school they do not allow us to bring cellphones so I had no other way to tell time, I got innovative. I made myself a watch from an old digital camera.”

Anesu’s efforts have been profitable. He has sold his art to those in his neighbourhood. This aided his start of small business that came in handy. There were noticeable differences of his growth even at home.

He contributes to grocery purchases at his house. Since the business is still ongoing this also has become source of income to him as he buys some of instruments for his art from his earnings.
His success did not come without challenges. One example was when his supply could not meet the high demand. Without income to use to buy instruments he uses, he could and can only produce a limited supply.

Other challenges Anesu is facing is that he cannot afford to buy proper art equipment so he improvises
Anesu has a patriotic side. It motivated him to draw the a picture of the President for his 89th birthday.

Though he hardly has free time, the soft-spoken artist enjoys playing soccer with his friends. The world is his oyster filled with wonderful options for his future.
Without wanting to limit himself, given a choice to pick a possible career he intends to pursue after school, he chooses to be a motor mechanic.
