The farmer invited his neighbour to help dig a pit so that he could bury the donkey alive. They dug a pit deep enough to bury the donkey and they took the donkey into the pit. The farmer and his colleagues began shoving back the soil into the pit to bury the donkey.
As they were busy shoving soil into the pit, the donkey would shake the soil of her back then stamp on it. The farmer and his team kept on shoving soil but soon enough they realised that the donkey was not buried but instead the donkey was safely on top of the soil. The donkey had successfully used what was meant to bury her to leverage her to life.
Ok, so someone is wondering what the donkey has to do with attitude. Well, the answer is everything. The donkey’s attitude was the difference between the donkey’s prepared death and her continued life. Had the donkey decided to just accept her prepared fate she would have surely died, but instead she adopted a positive fighting attitude which saw her live to see another day.
Now most people in life wear the wrong attitude and mistakenly expect the right results. A wrong attitude gives birth to wrong results. Attitude is the one factor that determines whether each experience (either negative or positive) will either be a stepping stone or sinking ground.
You see, in life you can never choose what happens to you but you certainly have the choice of the attitude you will wear in life. Many things happen to us in life, but the honest truth is what matters the most is not what happens to us but what happens inside us. If you wear an attitude of defeat you will certainly be defeated.
Of course, a lot of times in life we are faced with situations that are unforeseen, undesirable and unexpected. However, a person with a positive attitude will not fold and close shop because they have met a situation that is ideal but a person with a negative attitude will quickly give in and give up.
Some people carry a defeated attitude all the time before they are even actually defeated. How then do you expect such a person to live a victorious life when they are defeated even before they begin? We see these things daily and at times make fun out of them in our social set-ups, yet this is exactly where we lose it.
A classic all-time example is the “Rese Rese” syndrome that has become the joke of all job hunting stories. The honest truth is any manager leading an organisation in this world will never hire a “Rese Rese” believer. Managers are not looking for accidental employees anymore; they want employees who have clear set career plans that are achievable in their organisations while they are serving the organisation.
Some people are living life trying to induce sympathy from others, as a way of getting results. They pitch themselves to others as defeated people who are in dire need of rescue. While this is done in the hope of getting a break it actually achieves the opposite. Cease the habit of trying to appeal to people’s sympathy and begin aiming at their interest. Sympathy will never change your life; it actually makes it worse because you are effectively conditioning your mind to believe that your life is at the mercy of some other people. This is wrong! If there is any attitude you need to carry always in life it is an attitude of responsibility.
Remember if you are going to make it in life it is essentially up to you and no one else. It’s a two entity affair between you and God, outside that no man owes you anything at all.
Your attitude is all that matters to determine whether what you go through will either help you rise or sink.
We do not see the world as it is, but as we are, meaning what matters the most is our attitude than what is happening around us. The half full/half empty glass is a very simple but clear example of how attitude either determines success or failure.
The right attitude will certainly bring the right results!
Till next week, God bless you all.
