This means that prices as measured by the all items CPI increased by an average of 4,0 percentage points between March 2011 and March 2012.
“The year-on-year food and non- alcoholic beverages inflation prone to transitory shocks stood at 5,20 percent whilst non-food inflation stood at 3,44 percent.
“The month-on-month inflation rate in March 2012 was 0,43 shedding 0,06 percentage points on the February 2012 rate of 0.49 percent,” said Zimstat.
The agency said this means that prices as measured by the all items CPI increased at an average of 0.43 percent from February 2012 to March 2012.
The month-on-month food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation stood at 0,80 percent in March 2012 gaining 0,39 percentage points on the February 2012 rate of 0.41 percent.
The month-on-month non-food inflation stood at 0,26 shedding 0,22 percentage points on the February 2012 rate of 0,48 percent.
The CPI for the month ending March 2012 stood at 101,37 compared to 100,94 in February 2012 and 97,49 in March 2011.
An economic commentator, Ms Chipo Warikandwa, predicted that inflation was expected to decline further in April due to the fact that the country would be harvesting the                   summer crop during this time of the year.
She said although not much was expected from the fields during the harvesting period, the little to be harvested would see inflation registering a downward trend. The Government targets an  inflation rate of 4,5 percent by the end of the year.
