Another dancehall star is born

A star is born.Chikanga based dancehall singer Mthandazo Khalisha Hlupani whose stage name is Empress Lisha has emerged as a budding new talent on the dancehall scene.

The call to music came while enrolled at Mutambara Primary School.

“I grew up dreaming to be an artiste. I started singing at the age of 12 while doing grade 7. I would perform at shows and other functions at school and by then I liked Rihaana but now I have changed to Vybz Kartel,” she said.

She released her first single Ndini in February this year.

The single was well received and was produced by Simplex of the Simplex studio.

“I started to be serious about recording this year. I have a passion for music and I have worked with some local artistes in some of my songs,” said Empress.

Following the success of Ndini the young artiste released songs such as Wandakada, Zvemufirimu and she also did some collaborations on Wanga Uripi featuring Kalcha. In June, she did Nhaiwe Rudo featuring her producer Simplex, Preen and Nodza. She did another collaboration called Ndakada Iwe with Yutman. And the latest being Wandakada which was released in August this year.

Born on the 7th of July 1995, Empress did her primary and secondary education at Mutambara Schools before enrolling at First Class Academy for her Advanced level.

She said the future of Zim dancehall is bright.

“If we incorporate good morals in the industry we will go far and our province and nation has got many talented artists.

“As an upcoming artist,I have not faced many challenges as yet but just a few. Some men trying to take advantage of women in the name of being their managers or producers. I am also working on more music and videos to follow soon,” said the soft spoken singer.
