A SAKUBVA man has landed himself in trouble with the law after he was found in possession of banned bottles of liquor.
David Tauya (40) was convicted on his own guilty plea when he appeared before senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura. He was charged with contravening the Customs and Exercise Act Chapter 23; 06 which outlaws the importation and possession of banned substances. The court heard that Tauya was found in possession with the bottles of whisky which he allegedly smuggled from Mozambique for resale in Zimbabwe.
Representing the state was Mr Donald Mudadirwa.
“On September 28 detectives who were on patrol in Sakubva received a tip-off that the complainant was a drug dealer who sells the prohibited liquor at his house. A raid was carried leading to the recovery of the banned liquor.
He then failed to produce a valid license which allows him to sell the prohibited alcohol,” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Asked on why he had committed the offence, Tauya asked for leniency and said: “I erred Your Worship, it was a way of raising money for my children’s school fees.”
Mrs Chiundura then ordered him to pay a fine of $150 or to serve an alternative three months imprisonment.
