A SELF-STYLED prophet in Kuwadzana, Harare, Aleck Mushowane allegedly raped and threatened a 14-year-old girl that she would turn deaf and dumb if she told anyone about the incident, the court heard.

This emerged as the girl gave her evidence-in-chief when the trial commenced yesterday before Harare regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa.

The teenager told the court that she was indeed raped by the self-styled prophet.

It is the State’s case that Mushowane approached the complainant, who was standing at a gate with her friend.

He allegedly told them that he was a prophet who was willing to help the two spiritually to get good luck in life.

On the same day, at 5pm, the two girls went to Mushowane’s house where he indicated that he needed to be intimate with them for the spiritual cleansing exercise to be effective.

The two refused and ran back to their homes.

Two days later, Mushowane allegedly approached one of the girls again and asked her to accompany him to his house.

He allegedly took the girl to his bedroom and demanded to be intimate and she turned him down.

Mushowane then offered her US$30, but she refused. He then allegedly raped her.

Mushowane is also accused of raping another teenager aged 19.
