CAPS United came close to opening a four-point lead in the Castle Lager Premiership race last weekend before a controversial refereeing call destroyed their dreams.
Now, Lloyd Chitembwe and his men have to do it all over again when they take on another tough opponent, Chicken Inn, at Luveve on Sunday.
They need to forget the blundering assistant referee who robbed them of two points in their 1-1 draw against champions FC Platinum.
Their resolute defence, which has been their rock in this fine run, was breached last week for the first time after 444 minutes of action.
But, they will find comfort in knowing that the club’s hitman, William Manondo, seems to have rediscovered his scoring touch.
Manondo scored the opener against the champions, to take his tally to two goals in two matches, and could have had a hat-trick.
His first-half header was brilliantly saved by the FC Platinum goalkeeper before another chance, in the second half, was fluffed.
The club’s ‘keeper, Tonderai Mateyaunga, is still unhappy after conceding his first goal of the marathon.
“Every game comes with its own demands and it means we have to take a different approach each time that we play.
“It’s not okay to concede goals but we play as a team and we are not losing sleep over it because we have already shifted our focus to this weekend’s game.
“It’s not going to be an easy match against a good side like Chicken Inn but I’m confident that we can get something positive from this game,” said Mateyaunga.
Chitembwe confirmed that everyone was available for selection.
“Chicken Inn have been transformed into one of the league’s fierce sides, they are very organised and on their day they can beat anyone,” said Chitembwe.
“The boys know what is expected from them for us to maintain this pace.
“I’m not having a headache over who should play because my selection is based on who is performing better at training.”
