THE police have once again urged the public to avoid boarding private vehicles driven by motorists they don’t know as many people were being robbed and women raped.
Harare provincial police deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova, said on Independence Day at around 10pm, Tapiwa Takuwa and Zeria Zulu boarded a Honda CRV at the corner Leopold Takawira Street and Samora Machel Avenue.
The vehicle already had four passengers, including the driver.
Takuwa and Zulu occupied the back passenger seat with other passengers.
When they got to the Avondale shops, one of the suspects, who had pretended to be a passenger, produced a knife and ordered them to surrender all their belongings, while threatening to kill them.
Takuwa and Zulu surrendered their belongings, including money and cellphones.
The driver diverted the route and turned into Argyle Road before dumping them at the corner Ridgeview Drive and Westminster Road in Mabelreign.
In another mushikashika robbery, Shaun Saranavo boarded a Honda Fit at Parirenyatwa Hospital bus stop going home.
The car had three men and one female on board.
As the car was driving along Mupfuti Road, one man produced an okapi and demanded that Shaun surrender his wallet, containing US$200, and a Huawei P40 cellphone.
They then ordered him to disembark and sped off.
