adminBOURNEMOUTH. – JAIDON Anthony is keen for the Premier League to see what he and close friend Jordan Zemura can do – with the Cherries winger stating it was “special” to share a breakthrough season with his fellow academy graduate last term.
Reports have linked Zemura with a move to West Ham but Anthony appears to suggest the Zimbabwean will be starring for the Cherries this season.
During the previous campaign in the league, Anthony and Zemura shared the field 32 times – losing just twice, in away games at Middlesbrough and West Brom.
When the pair played together, Cherries averaged 2.33 points per game, a significant increase on the 1.91 points they accrued on average last season.
Whilst both Anthony and Zemura made their debuts in the 2020-21 season, it was not until last campaign under Scott Parker that they became first-team regulars.
In total, Anthony missed just one league game last term, whilst Zemura made 33 appearances in a season tempered by injury and a break to play in the African Cup of Nations.
The 22-year-old Anthony was full of praise for his friend, telling the Daily Echo: “He’s one of my closest friends and it was special to share the pitch with him so many times last season.
“He’s an unbelievable player. I think it’s there for everyone to see.
“When he’s in the side, it’s a tough day for anyone who comes up against him.
“So I’m just happy for him that he’s had the year that he’s had. “Hopefully we can do it again in the Premier League and show everyone how good we are really.”
Both Anthony and Zemura had their contracts extended until the end of the 2022-23 campaign, after a clause in their contracts was activated by the club.
The Daily Echo understands that whilst further discussions have been held with Anthony regarding a new deal, there is no major update regarding his contract. – Sports Reporter/Bournemouth Echo
