The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has appealed to members of the public to co-operate with 18 investigating officers who were suspended on allegations of corruption, insubordination and divulging the organisation’s secrets, but were later reinstated after being absolved of any wrong-doing.
In a Press statement yesterday, the anti-corruption body said the 18 officers were cleared of improper conduct and reinstated on September 28, 2016 after serving two of the three-month suspension.
They were suspended on July 28, 2016.
“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission would like to advise members of the public, Government institutions and private sector institutions that the 18 investigators who were suspended in July 2016 have since been cleared and reinstated by the ZACC,” read the statement.
“Members of the public are advised to cooperate with these investigators during the course of any investigations.”
The 18 are Mathew Sithole, Charles Sepe, Esnath Katsamba, George Murwisi, Rufaro Kunyenda, Soneni Chivizha, Berstern Matope, Antony Gonga, Masimba Victor, Ishmael Mukwasi, Sydney Ushe, Adam Welem, Augustine Mahwana, Emmanuel Mutunami, Forbes Mupotsa, Isaac Takawira, Cain Madiye and Charles Charuma.
Murwisi and Kunyenda have since retired from the anti-corruption body. The officers denied the allegations raised against them, arguing that they were being victimised for pursuing a labour case in which they won an arbitral award of $1,5 million for outstanding allowances and benefits.
They accused managers of attempting to block the investigation of high-profile cases.
