Anti-sanctions Harare chapter launched

SANCTIONS are continuing to cause devastating effects on Zimbabwe’s economy and the nation needs to be united in fighting the restrictive measures, an anti-sanctions activist has said.

Speaking at the launch of the Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) Harare chapter in Chitungwiza on Saturday, CAES executive director Mr Martin Zharare said:

“There is a need for collective action to defend Zimbabwe’s legacy and heritage. We need unity among war veterans, security forces, church leaders, Government officials and party leaders to combat sanctions,” he said.

“Zimbabwe is our beloved country. Let us defend it and build upon the foundation laid by our leaders. I urge everyone to join forces in defending our legacy and heritage. The sanctions are real and causing untold suffering to the people.”

Mr Zharare said citizens should work together to tackle sanctions’ effects and ensure the country’s prosperity.

“We must stand united with our allies, war veterans, and Zanu PF. No single entity can defend our country alone,” he said.

“Let us continue to work together, for this country belongs to its people, and as black Zimbabweans, we must claim our rightful heritage.”

At the event, Chitungwiza residents received insights into the sanctions’ harmful consequences.

Mr Zharare said they had started mobilising people for the anti-sanctions campaign, which is highlighted by the SADC Anti Sanctions Day commemorated on October 25 every year.
