They won the best dance crew award.
The awards show was meant to reward the country’s outstanding achievers in the genre this year.
In an interview Anti-virus crew member, Prince Dube said it was great for the group to be finally recognised for the efforts that they had put into their work over the past year.
“It feels great to be finally rewarded for all the effort that we have put in perfecting our skills over the past year. It shows that we are no longer merely a Bulawayo group but are a national brand,” he said.
Four Bulawayo artistes, rappers POY, MAC and dance crews Anti-virus and Break Equation, were all in the running for awards at this year’s awards show.
This year’s show was graced by former Big Brother Africa StarGame housemate and Botswana rapper Zeus, South African based group Kold Produck and fast rising rapper Truey Dontello who all performed at the ceremony.
The biggest winner on the night was Harare rapper Synik, who walked away with three awards – scooping the best album, best newcomer and also best collaboration for the song Powercut.
Other winners on the night included controversial rapper Maskiri who won the best male artiste award while his fierce rival Stunner walked away with the fans choice award.
The late Zimbabwean rapper, Mizchif was posthumously awarded a lifetime achievement award for his pioneering role in the hip-hop genre before he passed away in 1999.
Anti-virus’ victory follows hot on the heels of their success at the Jibilika Urban Dance fest that was held early this month.
Dube hopes that the success that they have enjoyed in recent times extends over a long period of time.
“We hope that what we have achieved over the past two weeks is not something temporary but something that will continue happening well into the future,” he said.
The crew has already lined up a tour of Namibia where they are scheduled to stage a number of shows.
