CHICKEN Inn head coach Joey Antipas cherishes the relationship that he enjoys with his trusted lieutenant Prince Matore saying it’s a bond that has seen them further sharpen their mentoring skills with so much aplomb.
The two gaffers started working together during their days at the now defunct Motor Action when the latter was still a player.
“We have been together for over 20 years. I started working with Prince during our days at Motor Action. It has been a fruitful relationship, a bond that I treasure so much. I respect his professional approach to the game. We have greatly improved our coaching skills and as such we look forward to working well for Chicken Inn,” said Antipas.
In 2016, the duo was offered a lucrative deal by former South African Premiership side AmaZulu.
This was after the two coaches had guided Chicken Inn to their first championship title and they appeared to be reaping rewards from that feat after AmaZulu offered them a good package.
The duo was relieved of their duties by South African side AmaZulu when it bought the Absa Premiership franchise of Thanda Royal Zulu last season.
After their short stint at AmaZulu the two coaches retraced their footsteps to the Gamecocks after Rahman Gumbo’s contract ran out on December 31 2017.
Their work was cut out for them at the Durban-based side which provided home to former Warriors goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro.
Early this year Murambadoro assumed the role of goalkeepers’ coach at Chicken Inn, a club that Antipas and Matore transformed into a competitive outfit. The Gamecocks gave a strong fight against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in their maiden dance with the Champions League competition in 2016.
Under the guidance of the trio, Chicken Inn clinched the 2020 Malawi Energem International Bonanza ‘s top accolade of a pre-season tournament that featured four international teams.
The Gamecocks finished the tournament with a 100 percent record and without conceding a goal. They beat Be Forward Wanderers and Malawi champions Nyasa Big Bullets by an identical 1-0 score line.
Gamecocks also got the better of Mozambique’s UD Songo in an explosive match that brought the curtain down on the invitational event.
