BULAWAYO-based Apostolic Sect choral musical group, Marimba Edenga, has released an eight track DVD album titled Tinochengetwa Nashe. The album consists of four songs taken from their 2011, Jesu Huyai album and four more songs taken from their 2012 album, Titarirei Jesu.
The DVD carries songs such as Tinochengetwa Nashe, Kutanga Nekukuguma, Kana Mweya and an IsiNdebele song, Qiniso Ngokuphila.
The group consists of eight members namely brothers Darlington and Washington Mbudaya, Simbarashe and Adren Mhepo, Taurai Munemo, Moses Matiye, Stan Manduna, Brian Nyamanhindi.
In an interview, group leader Darlington Mbudaya said the group was formed in 2010 and has up to now released four albums and one DVD album.
“In 2010, we released our first album Sungano, a 10-track album which was well received and we were encouraged by the support we got from fans. In 2011, we released another album Jesu Huyai, an eight track album,” he said.
Darlington said two more albums followed in 2012 and this year following demand for their music on the local market.
“We made album after album because fans were coming to us encouraging us to keep releasing albums. In 2012 we released Titarirei Jesu and this year we released Zita raJehovah,” he said.
Darlington said the group started as a small men’s group at church but when the Holy Spirit visited them they decided to preach the Word of God through music.
“We chose these eight songs on this DVD album because we thought they were the best from our albums this far. Fans also helped us in choosing these songs and we listened to their selection,” he said.
He encouraged fans to keep supporting local music in order to promote local culture and teachings.
“Listening to local music can help build a person. Ours is a country with cultural values and we as musicians sing songs with messages that can transform a person’s life,” he said.
Darlington said the group will keep on doing its best in giving locals top entertainment.
“We are in the process of recording another DVD for our 2013 album, Zita raJehovah and fans should look forward to it because it will be a good DVD just as this DVD album,” he said.
