A family from Bulawayo is appealing for financial assistance to raise US$30,000 for a heart operation to save their six-month-old son, Nduduzo Tirivashe Ndlela.

Nduduzo, a twin, has been diagnosed with multiple heart conditions, including Transposition of the Great Vessels (TGV/A), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) that requires urgent surgery only available in India.

According to the father Hlahlani Ndhlela they are seeking to take Nduduzo to India, where a team of cardiothoracic specialists is ready to perform the life-saving operation. The operation cannot be performed in Zimbabwe at the moment.

“This is not just a medical emergency it’s a matter of life and death, the child is not thriving and the doctors detected a congenital heart defect. We are pleading with well-wishers, corporates, and Government departments to help us raise the funds needed for the trip, medical procedures, for a full open-heart surgery before 06 August.” he added

The total amount needed is US$30,000, which covers surgery costs, travel expenses for Nduduzo and his twin brother and both parents, as well as post operative care.
