The national African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), led by National Governing Council Chairperson Commissioner James Manzou, today entered day two of a week-long validation exercise of a draft report produced from the targeted review mission held by the continental body in November last year.

The APRM continental body presented the draft report to the National Governing Council for validation last week.

Commissioner Manzou indicated that the validation workshop is focusing on a careful and structured examination of the draft report, which forms the core output of the targeted review process.

To enhance effectiveness, the review team has split into smaller working groups to allow for concentrated scrutiny of various sections of the document. This method is designed to ensure that each aspect of the draft report is examined in detail and aligned with the objectives of the targeted review.

Upon completion of the group work, the teams are expected to reconvene to share their findings and recommendations. These contributions will be consolidated to strengthen the draft report before its finalisation and submission.

The APRM targeted review process aims to assess specific national priorities and governance-related issues, with a view to identifying gaps, promoting accountability, and supporting evidence-based reforms. It provides an opportunity for Zimbabwe to reflect on its progress, challenges, and opportunities within agreed review areas, while reinforcing national ownership of development processes.

The targeted review is also significant in supporting Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to entrench good governance, improve institutional performance, and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

Through a participatory and consultative process, the APRM seeks to ensure that the final document accurately reflects national realities and contributes meaningfully to policy formulation and implementation.
