The pan-Arab organisation has underlined the importance of co-ordinating international and regional effo-rts to offer relief assistance to Libya and Yemen.
The move contributes to ease sufferings of the Libyan and Yemeni people due to conditions they are facing.
Addressing the opening ceremony, AL Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs Sima Bahous said it is essential to boost efforts aiming at ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to such unrest-hit countries.
Head of a humanitarian forum agency in Britain Hani el-Banaa underscored the importance of the event which provides an opportunity for reviewing the humanitarian conditions in Libya.
Representative of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Khaled Khalifa, on his part, said as many as 345 749 people with different nationalities have left restive Libya so far.
Some 6 000 people are still stranded along the Tunisian and Egyptian borders with Libya, he added. The AL is closely following up the latest regional developments, and conditions in Libya and Yemen, Bahous added.
The conference is held under the sponsorship of AL Secretary General Amr Moussa and in cooperation with an international humanitarian forum in Britain. – Xinhua.
