THE Archbishop of Bulawayo, His Grace Alex Thomas, celebrated Easter Monday mass with close to 600 members of the National Movement of Catholic Students and challenged them to be witnesses of the risen Christ.
The Catholic students had gathered for an annual Easter conference in Bulawayo.
In his homily, Archbishop Thomas said, “What we can do is to be witnesses of the risen Lord. Yes we can witness to our faith and our Church.So be convinced of your faith and don’t be afraid to be His witnesses.”
He challenged young people to believe in Jesus’ power, in His resurrection, and to be courageous.
“You may undergo failures, but know that this is not the end, even if it becomes the end on this earth, there is eternal life. In his resurrection we have eternal hope, we have the reality of life after death.
“As young people you might mistakes, you might mess up your life, you might lose hope and some might even think of committing suicide, but you always have that possibility of new life because God is always there to renew us,” the archbishop said. He explained that the resurrection of Christ meant all were justified before God (Romans 4:25), saying God accepted Christ’s sacrifice for sin on the cross.
The prelate said that as young people prepare to graduate, to get a job, to settle in life and to pursue their plans, they must also prepare for the journey to eternal life.
“You are the light of the world. You are the light of Zimbabwe so let’s make efforts to keep this light on always,” Archbishop Thomas concluded.
The National Movement of Catholic Students brings together believers across tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe.
During this year’s Easter conference, the participants engaged in various community service works in Bulawayo City, discussed youth participation in national issues, and attempted to address young people’s challenges in today’s world.
