Can such faith save him?”
Zaoga FIF Ministries celebrated its 51st anniversary recently, and this week, we highlight one of the numerous relief works carried out by the church through the leadership of its founder member Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, for communities living in and around Ngaone in Chipinge west.
According to a report from Ngaone Development Association (NDA) chaired by Mr W Chigariso, Archbishop Guti rehabilitated 29km road stretching from Gombati to Ngaone.
According to the NDA report, the road is the life-line for the entire community, and was destroyed in 2000 by Cyclone Eline, which hit and destroyed among other things the area’s road infrastructure.
Says the note of gratitude, “Since then, the road has been so impassable that communities living along it virtually became isolated from the socio-economic activities taking place throughout the whole country.
“The socio-economic life of the people degenerated into untold misery because no project could be undertaken to alleviate economic hardships.
“People from Ngaone have had to walk to Gombati, a distance of twenty-nine kilometers to receive rations from Christian Care and had to walk the same distance back home carrying bags of grain on their heads.
“Ngaone is a blessed place, endowed with rich natural resources such as timber of very high commercial value and fruit trees such as apples, plums, oranges, guavas, avocadoes, mangoes and paw-paws to mention just but a few.
“Throughout the year Ngaone farmers harvest fruits of high commercial and nutritional value but do not benefit anything from these products because of the poor road.
“Apart from these, Ngaone has many places of historical significance which can attract tourists, but the poor road network makes it impossible for anybody to access them.
“It is a paradox that people from such a rich place constitute the poorest class on the national graph.
“People from Ngaone had to organise themselves into villages to take turns to repair the road but with very little success due to lack of money and earth-moving machinery.
“The community, through its Development Association sought help from the local authorities but very little was achieved because equipment from DDF was said to be in a terrible state of dilapidation, a problem which was also compounded with severe shortage of fuel.”
The NDA also said that, “Companies like Tanganda Tea, Makandi, Chipinge Bananas and Wattle Company offered to supply the needed fuel.
“Such efforts were frustrated by lack of effective machinery.
“All the same we give our profound thanks to them all for their support.”
However, the response by Dr E Guti through Zaoga came as a great relief to the community.
The NDA also noted, “They successfully rehabilitated the life-line of the people and now the place has a link with the rest of the country.
“People in and around Ngaone deeply appreciate the love extended to this community by Zaoga and Dr Guti.
“Thank you for being sensitive to our plight which had stood unresolved for a long time.
“More meaningful development can be realised if the other section of the road which stretches for 29 km from Ngaone to Skyline is given the same treatment.
“It is ideal for use by buses and other heavy vehicles.
“It provides a link with places like Chimanimani and Mutare thereby enhancing business opportunities for the community.
“In this regard, we look forward to seeing the involvement of companies like Allied Timbers of Zimbabwe and the Wattle Company.”
The Ngaone Development Association expressed its gratitude to the church and Dr Guti thus, “Thank you Zaoga, thank you Dr E Guti. May God the Almighty bless you!”
