ARCHERS have been crowned champions of the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts Association league with three games to spare after beating New Dawn 24-15 on Wednesday night. They have made history by winning the title unbeaten and they are still on course to finish without a loss.
Archers’ closet rival Railstars lost 18-25 to Khami to surrender the title to record their fourth loss of the season.
“Archers have had a good season, I can now safely confirm that they are champions, as Railstars have failed to close the gap after back to back losses against Fairbridge and Khami,” league organising secretary and spokesman Lethukuthula Nkomo confirmed.
Archers captain and former Highlanders Football Club chairman Enerst “Maphepha” Sibanda was on cloud nine.
“It makes it so interesting to break new grounds, I have won the title with Highlanders and I am so happy that I have won it again in darts.
“We want to win all our remaining games, so that we can finish the season in style,” said Sibanda.
Archers’ outstanding players were Albert Tawanda, Nkululeko Ncube and Tafadzwa Mtomba.
Tawanda had a superb performance against New Dawn as he won all his six games and scored 180 points.
