Archers end darts season on high note

THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts Association league ended on Wednesday night with Archers making history after ending the season without defeat.
They together with second placed Railstars will now represent Bulawayo in the Champion of Champions tournament set for Zesa (Munyati) on 2 February next year.

In their home match season ender, Archers overcame police side ZRP (Entumbane) 24-15 to cap a fine season for the Mkhululi Dube captained side.

Former Highlanders chairman Ernest Maphepha Sibanda is the non-playing captain.
“Archers are our champions and we would like to congratulate them for a good season, winning all their matches and I think the only side that gave them a run for their money was Unit Fairbridge otherwise the rest were not a match,” said Lethukuthula Nkomo, the association’s organising secretary and spokesperson.

On Wednesday, Archers hit three 180 match plays through Nkululeko Ncube, Tawanda Albert and Brian Ndlovu all acquired from Highlanders. They won the doubles contest 2-1, winning the first set 5-4, losing the second 2-7 before coming good in the last two sets, winning 7-2 and 8-1 respectively.

Nkomo said they have tentatively set 11 December as the date for the annual prize giving night, likely to be at Barham Green hall.
“Generally, the season went on well without any major disciplinary issues and we would like to congratulate teams for that. We however had two teams Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (Caaz) and PPC failing to fulfil some of their fixtures which we suspect was due to budgetary constraints and I doubt whether they will be with us next season,” said Nkomo.

In other matches played on Wednesday night, Railstars beat Wisewaters 26-13 while the Jothan Ndiweni chaired Highlanders won 21-18 against New Dawn. Fairbridge beat Old Nic Mine 22-17 with gold miners How Mine prevailing 24-14 over Zimbabwe School of Mines.
Meanwhile, the Chairman’s Singles Tournament will kick off next Wednesday at Bellevue Club. The event will start with the traditional round robin on Wednesday with those who will qualify going through to the knockout phase two days later at the same venue.
