FOOTBALL stakeholders from Matabeleland South Province will tomorrow get an opportunity to exchange views with the Zifa president Cuthbert Dube in Gwanda.
The Zifa leadership is embarking on a tour of all the country’s 10 provinces as part of a needs assessment programme that is aimed at keeping the association’s fingers on the pulse on local football affairs.
Dube will be accompanied by his deputy Ndumiso Gumede, board member responsible for development John Phiri and the Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze. “The president (Dube) will be in Gwanda on Saturday and we call upon all football stakeholders from Matabeleland South Province to take time and interact with the Zifa leadership.
His visit is to enable the presidium to appreciate the situation on the ground as they will meet with all football stakeholders from the Area Zones up to Premiership level. Beyond that we will then come up with a report that we will use as we roll out programmes for development, national teams, marketing and general administration,” Mashingaidze said.
He said last week Dube was in Mashonaland East and his tours will run up to 15 December.
The Zifa president has made his intentions of going for another term public and it is likely that he will be selling his candidature to the provinces during these tours ahead of next year’s elections.
Dube has also been paying rentals for provinces throughout during his term and the Zifa Matabeleland South Province’s chairman Nkosi Ncube believes that the visit would aid their sponsorship pleas.
“Matabeleland South is a mineral rich area from How Mine to Beitbridge and we are appealing to the mining community and other business people for sponsorship. There are two things that as a province we would like Dube to help us with. The first thing is to assist in terms of approaching these potential sponsors because we believe that if we have the support of the presidium we can manage to lure these miners into football.”
