A SHOWDOWN is looming when log leaders Archers meet second placed Railstars in a Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts League match today.
Archers are still unbeaten and riding on a crest of a wave after brushing aside the challenge of Khami Prison last week winning 29-10.
A lot is at stake in today’s showdown with Archers looking forward to consolidate their position on the log.
On the other Railstars will be looking for two things which are revenge and dislodging the leaders from pole position.
The two teams are separated by a single point and coincidentally Railstars’ only loss came at the hands of Archers.
Today’s match promises fireworks since Njanji seem to be the only team that can stop Archers’ juggernaut from running away with the title. But Railsatrs will not have it easy against a well-drilled Archers side which is captained by former Highlanders Football Club manager Ernest ‘‘Maphepha’’ Sibanda.
Sibanda will be leading by example a team which is spoiled for choice.
Nkululeko Ncube, Albert Tawanda and Brian Ndlovu all former Highlanders Darts Club players have been key to Archers’ success this season.
Can Railstars turn the tables and inflict damage on their opponents who seem to be marching and destroying everything on sight?
Patrick Zimidzi, Mgcini Nkala and Maclean Chirwa are the players who are expected to be the driving force behind Railstars’ quest to stop Archers from snatching the title come end of season.
The league’s organising secretary Lethukuthula Nkomo has described the Archers and Railstars match as the big one and one not to be missed.
‘‘Archers seem to be running away with the title and Railstars need to be composed to stop them. Archers have some of the best players in the league. By the end of tomorrow’s (today) game, a change of position on the log standings might be possible if Railstars defy the odds and win. But this game is tricky because anything can happen although Archers seem to be favourites. Don’t rule out Railstars since they need to turn the tables by avenging that defeat they suffered at the hands of the same team,’’ said Nkomo.
Other games will see Old Nic Mine who beat Zimbabwe School of Mines 30-9 last week continue with their fine form when they take on ZRP Bulawayo.
Old Nic Mine will bank on former national champions Ndumiso Tshuma, Moses Ndlovu and Godfrey Mazonde.
Struggling Zimbabwe Saints play Parkview Kanka hoping for a change of fortunes while Highlanders meet Caaz in a game that might go either way.
