ZIMBABWE maintained their unbeaten run at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2023 as they wrapped up their group matches with a convincing nine-wicket win over Tanzania with 30 balls to spare at the Entebbe Cricket Oval yesterday.

They have been doing what the Chevrons failed to do in Namibia.

The win ensured the Lady Chevrons finished top of Group A with a 100 percent record and will now face either Uganda or Namibia on Saturday depending on today’s group B results.

Zimbabwe must win the semi-final to clinch one of the only two tickets available.

After restricting Tanzania to 82 runs in 19.5 overs, Zimbabwe made light work of the chase and reached 84/1 in 15 overs.

Skipper Mary-Anne Musonda top scored for the Lady Chevrons, scoring 33 runs off 27 balls before she was dismissed off the last ball of the ninth over. By the time the skipper was dismissed the damage was already done with Zimbabwe needing 34 runs from 66 balls to wrap up the tie.

Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Tirpano steered the Lady Chevrons to victory with an unbeaten 33 and 25 runs respectively.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe sent Tanzania to bat first.

The Zimbabwe bowlers were clinical with the ball taking wickets at regular intervals as they bowled out Tanzania for 82 runs with a single ball to spare.

Zimbabwe got their initial breakthrough in the third over as Precious Marange claimed two consecutive wickets with two last balls of the over.

Marange first bowled Samue Mtae before Monica Iddi was caught behind by wicket-keeper Chiedza Dhururu from the last ball of the over.

Tanzania third wicket fell in the eighth over when Hudaa Mrisho was caught by skipper Musonda off a Kelis Ndhlovu delivery.

Fatuma was next to return to the pavilion for Tanzania first ball of the 12th over when she was bowled by Nyasha Gwanzura.

Marange was back again to haunt the Tanzanians, as she clean bowled Pius Kamunya to claim her third and final wicket of the day.

There were four run outs.
