PROPHET Walter Magaya says he has a soft spot for Chegutu Pirates and will explore ways of how he can assist them in their maiden run in the domestic Premiership next year.
This could also include helping in the refurbishment of Pfupajena Stadium.
Chegutu Pirates, who are also known as Dzinza and Zaire, were recently crowned champions of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League.
They won the championship without an anchor sponsor.
Local business people were taking turns in helping Zaire to cross the line.
“I was more than excited when Chegutu Pirates secured their PSL status,” he told Zimpapers Sport.
“Their fans deserve to watch PSL football and it will be sad if they have to play their home games away from Chegutu.
“I have always liked community teams because of the spark they bring to our league.
“I’m planning to visit Pfupajena and see what can be done.
“It’s my wish to assist this team and I’m looking forward to meeting those who are in charge of this team and hearing what they are planning.”
He added:
“I’m convinced that Pirates are not only the most supported team in Division One, they have more numbers than most of the PSL clubs.
“Not because they are good, but because people connect better with the community teams than those teams which are owned by individuals.
“That’s the reality we cannot escape, and you can see how those teams are supported and how the individually owned ones are struggling to attract fans despite how good they are.
“I no longer have the power to rename Yadah because of the respect that I have for those who are running this club.
“But if there was a chance to rebrand, it’s something I was never going to hesitate to do.”
