Arenel Movers flying high

ZIFA Southern Region Division One log leaders Arenel Movers are definitely flying high!

They are yet to taste defeat after 26 rounds of play and their defensive midfielder Irvine “Dala” Mukombwe is happy that it has been a campaign pointing to the good.

“It has been a very good season for everyone who is part of this journey.

“We were expected to be one of the top teams at the start of the season but no one could have imagined that it would be such an enjoyable journey. I’m not saying that it has been easy,” said Mukombwe.

The 23-year-old is at Arenel on a season long loan from Premiership Soccer League (PSL) outfit Chicken Inn.

He has had four goal contributions as assists in the 20 matches he has played so far for the Kudzai Mhandire mentored  side.

Mukombwe also pointed out that their match against ZPC Hwange that saw them prevail 3-0 at home was his best match that he has featured in so far this season.

His role model is FC Platinum and Warriors midfielder Brian Banda, a creative midfielder who previously played for Highlanders.
Mukombwe and Banda were both bred in Bulawayo’s high-density suburb of Entumbane.

Interestingly, they are both endowed with offensive and defensive football attributes.

The young Mukombwe has built a reputation for himself as he has the special ability to break or intercept opponents passes and in turn play intelligent passes for his teammates in advanced positions to make use of.

As if that is not enough, he has the ability to score classic goals from a distance.

Despite the incredible run that his team is enjoying, Mukombwe warned his teammates to guard against a relaxed approach.

“We have built something very good for ourselves. It is now in our hands to maintain or destroy it. We can easily destroy it by relaxing. We need to remain focused and take each game as it comes,” said Mukombwe.

Last weekend Arenel proved too sweet for Victoria Falls based Mosi Rovers whom they thrashed 6-1at White City Stadium.

This was their biggest victory of the season so far.

They were scheduled to play former PSL side Zimbabwe Saints this afternoon. Chauya Chikwata have since been expelled from the league after they failed to fulfill a number of their fixtures owing to financial challenges.
