ZIFA Southern Region Division One table toppers Arenel Movers maintained their unbeaten run after a 2-0 victory over Bosso 90 at White City Stadium in Bulawayo yesterday afternoon.
Two second-half goals from the Movers skipper Brian Jaravaza were the difference maker between the two sides. This was the ambitious Arenel’s 11th victory in 13 outings in the second-tier league. They remain the only side in the league to yet taste defeat. Bosso 90 have now suffered six defeats in the league.
The first half of the match was not short of drama with both sides looking to get into an early lead. It was Jaravaza who had the first clear-cut chance of the game, 17 minutes into the match before his shot went off target.
After a couple of off-target misses from Arenel, the Bosso 90 goal minder, Gerald Sibanda was brought into action in the 33rd minute when he punched the shot away from goal.
The Amahlolanyama juniors had a chance to break the deadlock four minutes before half time, however, missed the chance with a yawning gate. Soon after, Sibanda was brought into action once again, saving a Leeroy Ndlovu one versus one shot before the referee blew his whistle for half-time.
It took Arenel six minutes into the second- half to find the back of the net after the second -half, calmly converting a penalty.
A double substitution minutes after finding the back of the net proved a good move for the table toppers as they doubled the lead in the 70th minute.
Jaravaza once again slotted home from close range after a series of passes in the Bosso 90 area.
Despite getting numerous chances and making substitutions, Bosso 90 could not get back into the game and had to walk away empty handed while Arenel took home maximum points.
Arenel have now moved to 35 points and a goal difference of 23 while Bosso 90 remain on 15 points with their goal difference dropping to just two.
Walking away with maximum points after a hard-fought victory, Arenel head coach, Kudzai Mhandire was impressed with how his side handled the game.
“It was an important victory for us, every game is important. Credit goes to the opponents, they tried to match us, it was a balanced game but managing the pressure is what makes a champion,” said Mhandire.
Despite the defeat, Bosso 90 head coach, Melusi Sibanda Mabaleka was also impressed with the performances his boys put up in the 90 minutes of play.
The Bosso90 gaffer said experience was the difference between the two sides, adding that some of his charges are not yet used to such a level as they joined the team from the lower division. – @brandon_malvin
