Arenel, Ngezi game sold out

IF anything, the first week of the 2024 league proved that Arenel mean business in the top-flight soccer league.

Not only did they record an impressive result with a goalless draw against Ngezi Platinum at Luveve Stadium last Saturday, but they also had that game sold out.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) was caught by surprise as over 400 fans paid to watch the game resulting in tickets running out and several fans eventually failing to access the venue. Arenel administrator Juma Phiri said they have since engaged PSL to avoid such a scenario in the future.

“It was more of an oversight than anything. I engaged the PSL and they have assured us that the situation will not happen again. We are a new side and it’s a positive for us to have managed to pull such an impressive crowd. I believe if we continue to post positive results we can even have bigger crowds for our matches,” said Phiri.

He said their goal this season is to survive relegation.

“We are not placing too much pressure on ourselves. The goal is to survive relegation this season and make sure Arenel stay in the top-flight league for the years to come,” said Phiri.

Arenel Movers proved to be too sweet for highly fancied defending league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars when they forced a draw. Next up for Arenel is Chicken Inn again at Luveve Stadium.
