A SHOP-OWNER from Gokwe was attacked by a gang of armed robbers who raided her shop while she was asleep, getting away with US$1 000, clothes, and a cell phone.
A source close to the incident said the shop owner, Harugumi Shumba (40), was sleeping in her shop at Sesame Business Centre when a gang of robbers who were armed with machetes, knives and an iron bar pounced at her shop, breaking down the door and entering her office.
They threatened to kill her, and after that, they tied her hands to her back with shoelaces. It is said after that they ransacked the shop hunting for cash and stumbled on US$1 000 which they took including clothes and a cellphone.
Midlands police spokesperson Insp Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects behind the unlawful entry and robbery.
“We strongly discourage business people from keeping large sums of cash in their homes. They should keep money at the bank,” he said.
