A GANG of four armed men overpowered a team of Fawcett security officers, tied them up, blasted a safe and got away with more than Us$9 000 at Meru service station in Kwekwe.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the robbers struck in the early hours of 17 November 2025 and moved with cold precision.
“Four armed men approached a Fawcett officer who was on duty and forced him to lie on the ground. They tied his hands and legs before dragging him into the building,” said Comm Nyathi.
The drama escalated when a second officer tried to raise the alarm.
“A second Fawcett officer ran into the building and was also caught while attempting to notify the Fawcett Reaction Team. The suspects tied his hands and legs and dragged him into the same room where the other Fawcett officer was being held,” he said.
With two guards down, the gang pushed deeper into the premises like they owned the place.
“The suspects then forced their way into a second room, where three Fawcett officers were asleep and tied their hands and legs as well,” said Comm Nyathi.
The tied up guards could only watch helplessly as the gunmen went for the jackpot, detonating explosives to bust open a wall mounted safe.
“They blasted a wall mounted safe and stole US$9 700 and went away,” said Comm Nyathi.
The gang disappeared into the night with the cash, leaving five immobilised guards and a blown up safe behind.
Police have launched a manhunt for the daring robbers and have appealed to the public for information.
