Armed men storm Cape Town mall

news-machine-guns-editCAPE TOWN – Cape Town shoppers were left shaken after armed robbers stormed into the upmarket Cavendish Square in Cape Town, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash and gold coins yesterday.At around midday three robbers entered a coin retail store, Scoin, in the mall where they held staff at gunpoint.

Western Cape police spokesperson André Traut said robbers managed the flee the scene with cash and gold coins.

According to a witness, who was sitting at a nearby restaurant, the alleged robbers were seen firing shots as they made their escape.

The witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was sitting with my back to what was happening and I heard a noise and suddenly everyone around me was diving for cover under the tables . . .”

The witness said no-one had been injured, but her elderly friend, who had seen a gunman running away, was shaken up.

A Scoin employee confirmed the incident, but declined to comment further.

Traut said no arrests have been made and the matter is being investigated. – News24
