TWO armed robbers were sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Ancelimo Musengi (47), also known as Norman Sithole, of Velapezi Farm, Epworth, and Walter Mapfumo (36) of Dera Village, St John’s Chikwaka, were arrested for a spate of armed robberies in and around Harare.

In a statement, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) spokesperson, Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, said their arrest led to the clearance of 35 robbery cases and the subsequent conviction and sentence of Musengi to 30 years and 11 months in prison.

“During the period extending from January 2023 to February 2024, the two robbers, being opportunist criminals, would target complainants who would have slowed down, stopped or experienced vehicle breakdowns at corner Delpot along Seke Road.  Armed with iron bars, catapults and an Okapi knife, the two would pounce on the unsuspecting victims before robbing them of their valuables.”
