ARMED robbers pounced at a company along Coventry Road in Workington and went away with US$21 000.

The 12 armed robbers raided Zim Kings Trading Company.

They disarmed the three security guards — Kanizio Gurumani, 64, James Manda, 45, and Samson Gwazhi, 50, — at around 2am.

They were wearing face masks, armed with two AK47s and pistols.

The robbers disconnected the alarm and CCTV system.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.

“Police are investigating an armed robbery case at a company in Workington,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The accused persons proceeded into the guard room where the three security guards were.

“They disarmed them, tied their hands, dragged them outside the premises and confiscated their cellphones.

“The accused persons unlocked the store room and took an electric powered grinder and a welding machine which they used to cut open the stock control office door.”

Insp Chakanza added:

“The accused persons stole 26 drop safe keys which are used to secure cash in the trucks office.

“They proceeded into the manager’s office where they used an unknown object to break the wooden door to gain entry and stole a CCTV DVR hard drive.

“They also cut the screen door of the finance office with a grinder and broke the door to gain entry and disconnected the alarm and stole an HP laptop and a small red cash box with US$3 500 petty cash.

“They proceeded into the accounts office where they used a grinder to force open the screen and wooden doors, used the grinder to grind the drop safe and stole US$17 000 in cash.”
