TAMBARIMBA Arts held its annual marimba music festival for schools on Saturday.
The festival ran under the theme ‘Drugs Are Not Our Culture.’
Charles Wraith School won the competition, which attracted over 15 schools.
Makumbi High School came second with St Johns Chikwaka taking third place
The top two schools composed and presented an anti-drug abuse piece, clearly highlighting the effects of substance abuse among young people.
Tambarimba Arts uses this event to scout for local and young talent.
The winning schools walked away with trophies, medals, a PA system, a generator and traditional instruments.
“We provide marimba instruments, train marimba music and we host the biggest marimba music festival for primary and secondary schools.
“Schools from Shurugwi, Gweru, Kwekwe, Goromonzi, Ruwa and Harare participated in the exciting and explosive event.
“As Tambarimba Arts, our objective is to support the government’s vision of a heritage-based curriculum and create a platform to showcase artistic talent within our students,” said Don Chidavaenzi, the founder and director of Tambarimba Arts.
Each school performed the festival set piece ‘Nhema Musasa’.
Tambarimba Arts is already preparing for next year’s festival, which will be held in July.
“All schools are invited to get an opportunity to showcase talent as we believe talent should not end at rehearsals only but should be exposed.”
